Newcomers at DESO
DESO development is constantly growing and since the end of the year 2021 we have few new people join our team. What was their motivation to join DESO? What knowledge, ideas or passion bring to the team? What they would like to achieve in our company? And how they like the work so far? We asked them.
No one is an unwritten book so everyone came to DESO not only with expectations but also with some life and work experience. What work background do the five new DESO employees we decided to interview have?
One of the most experienced employees in the tinting industry is our Product Owner Thomas. With what knowledge and experience did he come to DESO? “I have worked in the tinting industry for almost 20 years and in the past, there have not been as many innovations in this area as there are today. Today we are in a completely different situation and I think DESO is a big player in the market. I see its potential and I’m glad I was one of the first to see it.”
Almost a decade of IT experience is also behind our COO Bohdan: „I started in IT nine years ago in the support field. Then I worked my way up through analysis and the Product Owner position to the COO position I hold now. So I’ve been through all the areas that I’m leading now as an employee.“
Our new Back Office Assistant Petra, on the other hand, has a wealth of experience both in the economic area and in working with people. She is currently completing Ph.D. in economics and is also a lecturer at the university. What does she bring to DESO? “I think I come to DESO with the experience that working with people is important. The school teaches me patience and that everything can be solved calmly. In addition, I studied accounting and tax at the undergraduate level, and at DESO I am deepening this knowledge.”
Our Account Manager František tried out a number of IT positions in his previous job, which now gives him a wealth of experience in the field. “I worked in a company that dealt with software related to leasing and agriculture. I performed testing and support while helping with the transition to newer versions of modules. I was also responsible for the complete care of one of the clients in this particular area.”
The most experienced member of the new DESO crew is our Tester Zdeněk, who also has many years of experience in IT and testing. For the past 4 years he has been testing in the banking industry.
People with such knowledge and experience certainly have no problem finding a job in the current job market. We were therefore interested to know, why they decided to work at DESO development?
Our COO Bohdan has more than one reason for choosing DESO: „The first reason was that I was approached by the person who runs DESO, so it was obvious that he was serious about the offer and knew who he was looking for and what he wanted, and it was very specific. After that, I started to think about changing jobs and started working at DESO. The second reason was DESO’s potential. The potential and growth, not just financially, are huge. I couldn’t resist the challenge of jumping on the train that was rolling along so nicely.“
Back Office Assistant Petra, on the other hand, especially appreciated the human approach of her future supervisors before joining DESO: „I was at the job interview at DESO for an hour and a half, and even though you usually come out of interviews tired, I felt good here. I was more energized here than the other way around. I liked that they really focused on me the whole time. My priority is that people at work are nice and the environment here is great for that. I like that when complications come up, there’s also a great effort to resolve them. Everyone is willing to help each other out.“
From the role of the original customer, our Product Owner Thomas also decided to work with us: „I got to know DESO from a customer perspective in 2017, there were some interesting products. In the first years I was in contact with Martin and every time there were some ideas from my point of view as a customer and Martin’s ideas as management, these ideas complemented each other perfectly.“
Our Account Manager František, on the other hand, chose DESO not only according to the size of the company, but he was looking for a company that would offer him space for implementation of his ideas: “I wanted to go to a smaller company, I wanted to use my knowledge and experience and in a small company everyone has to have a broader scope. I like the complexity. The communication with the client, but also the technical overlap. I like working with people, I enjoy being creative. I like to address the client’s needs with them and ask questions: What do you need? Let’s solve it together. I’m attracted to improving the experience of our product by being proactive and offering what’s possible.”
The job, whether a person enjoys it, is very important. So we also asked the newcomers what they enjoy about working at DESO? What is their passion?
Thomas, our Product Owner, sees meaning and fulfillment not only in customer satisfaction but also in the ability to implement his thoughts and ideas in collaboration with others: „My passion is to bring software to the market with really great ideas and features that are useful to customers as well. I love working with customers and gathering information about the real practical use of our products. It is important for me to confront this information with market insights. You need this insight to improve our software. I like to come back to the customer with a solution to their problems that can also save them time and money. I also enjoy brainstorming, connecting ideas, and creating solutions.“
But not only Thomas appreciate the opportunity to actually bring ideas to life. Our COO Bohdan put it this way: „What I would highlight about working at DESO is the personal impact. The fact that you really have the opportunity to give things your own edge.“
František responded to the question of what he likes most about working at DESO: „When I have an idea, I have an open door to implement it. That’s great. I came up with the idea that I wanted to start passing on knowledge on a regular basis, and it’s working. That’s the thing I came up with, and I’ve been given the space to do it. I’m really excited about it. I enjoy creating a methodology to make it effective, to make it work.“
Tester Zdeněk most appreciates the opportunity to move testing into the area that interests him the most: „It looks like I’ll be able to do what I enjoy, which is test automation. I would like to pursue this and fortunately, our COO is interested in developing this area.“
The last question was devoted to the future direction. How do our new employees see their future at DESO? And what would they like to achieve at DESO?
Thomas, Product Owner would like to contribute to the company with his knowledge of the tinting industry: „I see big potential in DESO, in its software. With a knowledge of the customer part, I can see what is needed in the market and I want to help develop it.“
Petra would like to improve in the area of finance and invoicing, which she would like to be in charge of in the future, while Zdeněk plans to work on test automation, which he is interested in.
Bohdan, COO is thinking about improving processes and using the potential of DESO. „I would like to improve our manuals, to make the job of support easier. In development, I would like to improve the analysis and communication of customer requirements. I would like to have the software properly divided into modules, and elevate testing to an automated process. I would really like us to be able to properly use the huge potential that DESO has. At the same time, I would like everyone to enjoy working at DESO.“
However, it does not end with the wishes and experiences of our five newcomers. As already mentioned, DESO is constantly growing. Two more people will join our team in the next few days: the TMC team will be strengthened by a new developer Tereza, and a new support member Danil will join us at the beginning of May.
